Exhibition Mille Donne di Venezia

November 20 to December 27, 2023 – Mille Donne di Venezia exhibition

SUMus initiates the regenerative movement Sumus WoMen around a manifesto on the occasion of the exhibition Mille Donne di Venezia and WOW (Women of the World).

Why Women? Because they give Life, today they are the ones who can bring about a new dynamic to cure humanity of its excesses.
For many, Venice is a woman, embodying the power of the feminine that must awaken throughout the world to allow for the blossoming of a peaceful, joyful, and sustainable society. Many Venetian women have historically been global pioneers in their time. This is why SUMus decided to honor these historical Venetian women, as well as the women living in Venice today who carry on this essential feminine legacy. This tribute was paid through an art exhibition that opened on November 20, 2023, in Campo San Lorenzo.
The artist Pierre Maraval, known for his viral works, photographed from May 2023 to September 2023who wished to contribute to creating a better world for future generations and who recognized themselves in the theme of the exhibition “We Care, We Dare”.
Some examples of these women are Maria Barovier, Caterina Corner, Cassandra Fedele, Gaspara Stampa, Irene di Spilimbergo, Morosina Morosini, Veronica Franco, Bianca Cappello, Marietta Robusti (la Tintoretta), Moderata Fonte (Modesta Pozzo de' Zorzi), Lucrezia Marinelli , Sara Copio Sullam, Elena Cassandra, Tarabotti, Barbara Strozzi, Elena Lucrezia Corner Piscopia, Rosalba Carriera, Giulia Lama, Faustina Bordoni, Maria Boscolo, Elisabetta Caminer Turra, Giustina Renier Michiel, Gioseffa Cornoldi Caminer, Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi, Adele Della Vida Levi , Eleonora Duse, Emma Ciardi, Margherita Sarfatti, Luisa Casati, Peggy Guggenheim as well as Ida d'Este.

The artwork is viral, meaning that the first women photographed invited other women to join, and so on. It's a spontaneous viral phenomenon; all women, regardless of age, origin, or status, were invited to participate in this collective work, provided they live in Venice, on the surrounding islands, or on the mainland (Terra Ferma), and wish to contribute to creating a new, positive dynamic in their city.
These first 1000 portraits were then exhibited from November 20 to December 27, 2023 on Campo San Lorenzo.

The 1000 portraits initiated an online artistic platform WOW (Women of the World) which will then be open to all women of the world in order to generate a global movement of sisterhood and thus awaken the feminine forces that alone are capable of caring for humanity and healing the planet.
