The first phase of the renovation of the forge of the future took place from November 2022 to the end of April 2023, focusing on the first floor of the building. The flooring, electrical wiring, and bathroom fixtures were replaced. The roof, heating, and air conditioning systems will undergo a second phase of renovation, scheduled from December 2023 to April 2024.

The renovation was carried out with respect for the history and charm of the site, preserving the original materials in a sustainable manner. The building aimed for energy self-sufficiency while adhering to the city's constraints. The objective was to make the Forge of the Future a third place open to Venetians wishing to contribute to creating a vibrant future for their city, as well as to other associations, businesses, and institutions, in order to break down barriers and unite goodwill to provide concrete and innovative solutions to the challenges facing Venice.

The Forge of the Future is the headquarters of SUMus. Its purpose is to host conferences, citizen meetings, film screenings, debates, and exhibitions whose themes closely align with the values ​​and mission of SUMus. The Forge of the Future can also become a pavilion for biennials, provided that the themes also support current SUMus activities.
